5 Blush Tips and Tricks You Need to Know

Using blush is one of the easiest ways to change up your look because it gives you a healthier, more youthful glow.   However, it can also be one of the most confusing products to use.  With all the different shades and finishes available, how do you choose?  Let’s break down some quick tips to make this easier for you.

The first quick tip is to understand if a shimmer finish or a matte finish is best for your skin.  If you tend to have bumpy or uneven skin, stick with a matte finish for your blusher.  I know that the shimmer look is a lot of fun, however, it can make large pores, scars, and pimples stand out.

Next, blusher is an excellent multipurpose tool.  Not only can you use it on your cheeks, you can also use it on your lips for a subtle touch of color as well as on your eyelids to try out something new!  Don’t be afraid to experiment with it.  Additionally, you could use it for contouring if needed.

Another point to keep in mind with blusher, is that there are many formulas available.  From pressed powders, loose powders, dewy stains, and glossy gels, there is certainly a variety.   Because dewy finishes can make large pores stand out, stick with a matte finish. This will help keep your pores looking smaller as it won’t draw attention to them.   Consequently, creamy and dewy finishes tend to enhance your cheeks more by offering a shine, so these products are perfect for people with smaller pores and smoother skin.  Check out this quick guide for helping you choose the best blusher type for your skin.

Meanwhile, if you find that you’ve applied a bit too much blush, don’t worry!  Simply lightly blend a bit of your powder foundation or a setting powder over the area to soften it.  Easy peasy!

Finally, one of my favorite tips:  If you’re in a pinch for some blush, grab your brightest lip color out of your purse/clutch/backpack, whatever you use, and dab it on the apples of your cheeks.  Gently blend up and back with your fingers, and BOOM!  Instant blush in a hurry!
